Don't You Feel Small?

See the world, ask what's it for,
Understanding, nothing more,
Don't you feel small,
It happens to us all.

Well, it's been a while since I posted any photos from my mountain hiking excursion up in the Catskills during my...otherwise depressing trip to New York after my grandfather's passing, hasn't it?

Anyways, in case you don't remember, my cousin took me hiking up Red Hill, a moderate-sized peak in the Catskills. He's an avid hiker and thought it would be a good way for me to get away from all the family drama and have a day of peace since it was really bringing me down. It was a pretty long hike (took well over an hour for me to reach the summit), but we reached the top and climbed the old fire tower that lookouts used to be stationed at in the bygone days to watch for fires in the area. We then decided to have a little...fun experiencing the effects of gravity first hand by throwing our Gatorade bottles off from the lookout point in the tower. I know somebody might lecture me on being incredibly irresponsible in doing that as someone could've been hurt by that...but I should go ahead and mention since it was before noon, we were the only ones on the peak at the time so nobody else was in any danger.

I tossed my completely empty bottle over the edge, and then my cousin tossed his half-full one over. I was fully expecting the bottle to explode upon impact with the ground and spray Gatorade all over the place...but surprisingly, the bottle stayed intact! It made a huge bounce (it probably went up about 10 feet after impacting the ground) and was definitely dented up after being thrown over the edge, but it was still intact and the Gatorade inside was still drinkable. After we did that I climbed back down the tower to go fetch the Gatorade bottles...and my cousin snapped this photo of me just after I picked them both back up.

Gives you a good idea of how tall the tower is, doesn't it? I look like a micro-Clack from up there. Really puts it into perspective how small we really are compared to the big wide world, if you ask me...
